On July 9, 2025, as required by the Government Code, the Chino Valley Fire Board of Directors adopted Ordinance 2025-01 regarding the new fire hazard severity zones within our respective jurisdiction. Based on the Government Code, the Fire District could only increase a free hazard severity area, but not decrease it. The Fire District adopted the designated areas with no new additions or changes.
You are receiving this notice as your property has been identified as being in either the high or very high zone.
Effective September 1, 2025, in accordance with the Government Code there are legal requirements that you must comply with. They are as follows:
1). Maintain defensible space on your property. Use the Ready, Set, Go Q1:l Code to access the brochure that outlines creating defensible space or visit the Fire District's webpage that provides additional information: www.chinovalleyfire.org/VegetationManagement
Property owners planning to prune protected trees on their own property must follow the tree pruning standards of the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA). Please call the City of Chino Hills Community Development Department at 909.364.2740 for specific information about the tree regulations and whether they apply to native trees or heritage trees on your property. It is illegal to trim or chop down City trees in open space areas, on slopes and parkways, or in parks.
2). Upon sale of your property, you are required to comply with hazard disclosure requirements and have a hazard disclosure inspection conducted. This disclosure inspection has been in effect since July 2021.
3). For any new construction comply with building standards for the designated area. Building standards for new construction in areas designed as being high or very high are not new. Building standards for these types of areas have been in effect since 2008.
